Everything You Need to Know About NOVA River Guides
Exploring Alaska’s rivers and glaciers is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But if you’ve never been here before, venturing out on your own can seem overwhelming! That’s why we recommend taking a tour with NOVA River Guides. NOVA is Alaska’s oldest river rafting tour company, offering whitewater adventures, glacier hikes, and private tours since 1975. No matter which tour you choose, NOVA will make your vacation unforgettable! Here are some of our favorite trips.
Spend a Day with NOVA River Guides
Sure, seeing the incredible Matanuska Glacier from afar is nice. But exploring it yourself is even better! NOVA offers hikes all over this massive sheet of ice, and each is lead by a friendly and experienced guide. Sign up for a 3.5-mile journey to the impressive “Ice Falls”, or explore less-frequented areas on the 5-mile Adventure Trek. You can even try your hand at ice climbing! No experience is necessary, and glacier gear like boots, crampons, helmets, rope, and hardware is included.
Whether you’re looking for a gentle float trip or a thrilling whitewater adventure, NOVA River Guides has you covered. Experienced rafters can take on Six Mile Creek, Alaska’s most challenging Class V whitewater run. You’ll paddle through three canyons that boast narrow routes, steep drops, beautiful pools, and adrenaline-pumping rapids. Or, if you’re a beginner, sign up for the company’s most popular tour: LionHead. This exciting trip features several Class II, III, and IV rapids as well as plenty of scenic vistas.
Traveling with the kids? You’re in luck! NOVA’s Glacier Float is fun for visitors of all ages. This trip starts at the face of the mighty Matanuska Glacier and includes easy Class II rapids. Your family will love looking for wildlife and soaking up views of the mountains, hillsides, and old glacier moraines.
Alaska is known as the Land of the Midnight Sun, and for good reason. Our beautiful state experiences almost 24 hours of sunshine during the summer months! To take advantage of all that daylight, NOVA offers a special sunset float for the summer solstice. You can run the whitewater, then pull over for a BBQ and snack before floating down to the take-out spot. This evening raft trip is available for private parties of 6 or more and ends around midnight. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
