Experience the Best Kayaking in Alaska with Alaska Kayak Academy
Located in Wasilla, AK, Alaska Kayak Academy specializes in guided kayak adventures on Alaska’s coastal waters. Sign up for a single or multi-day trip, or try your hand at an instructional class. You’ll find a few options below.
If you’re new to water sports, AKA can help you hone your skills. They offer expert instruction on whitewater kayaking, sea kayaking, packrafting, and more. You’ll even learn valuable rescue and boating safety procedures.
One of the Academy’s most popular courses is Kayak Camping 101, a three-day tour that takes you out on the ocean. You’ll practice paddling and map reading with a spectacular backdrop of mountains, glaciers, and waterfalls. Another great option is the Packcraft Class where visitors learn how to run class I & II rivers. All gear is provided.
Are you an experienced kayaker looking for a challenge? AKA has a number of guided day trips and multi-day excursions to choose from. We love the Family Adventure, which takes paddlers down Cottonwood Lake in the heart of the Matanuska Valley. Eagles, beavers, salmon, and assorted waterfowl have been spotted on this tour. It’s available from mid-May to mid-September.
Alaska Kayak Academy also offers day trips to Prince William Sound. Guests who opt for this 12-hour adventure get up-close and personal with huge glaciers and icebergs. As an added bonus, wildlife like sea otters, seals, and gull rookeries often make an appearance.
Visitors who are planning to head out on their own can borrow gear from Alaska Kayak Academy. Packrafts, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards are available for rent, as are drysuits, dry pants, gloves, and helmets. Check the school’s website for information and pricing.
